History of the Hidden Isles

When the great Wyrm fell and created the vast mountain range called the Wyrm Spine Mountains, it also had a dramatic is less well documented effect on the wilderness to the north. A large section of the west coast was separated from the mainland, the drop in the coastline caused the massive flooding that lead to the formation of Moorwaine swamp, now home to lizardmen and other swamp beasts.

As for the section of the coast that fell away, it was the original home of the sprites and under the power of Tariel, Goddess of the Sprites and thus it was saved from instant destruction. Instead, the sections of land were broken up and scattered across the oceans and wrapped in fairy mists and volcanic fog brought on by the great volcanic activity caused by the split of the continent.

Several Voyages were sent to chart the region of unexplored seas by both the Cities of Devardec and Tranos, but few returned, some of those that did spoke of sprites and magical powers, the ramblings of rum riddled sailors or fear eyed adventurers.

Around the year 34 of the modern Devardec Calendar the first of the isle finally emerged form it's shroud of fog, it was quickly seized on by the sea traders of Tranos, eager for an isle to store cargo and contraband beyond the reach of any cities laws.

Pirates hid in coves scattered about the coast of Norland, trying to capture ships from both Tranos and Devardec. The discovery of Twilight by Pirates gave them a port from which the Devardec-Tranos ship paths could easily be interrupted. The Isle soon began to build as word spread throughout the alleys of Norland.

Outlaws flocked to the Island and began construction of a tunnel to the sewer systems of Norland in order to obtain a new method of entry to the city of Devardec, avoiding its fortified and well-guarded gates. However, the expansion and growing prosperity of Twilight was to be cut short by a devastating plague in the year 67.

Some claim the plague was the work of the gods, for the pirates where approached on several occasions by Vagma  and Zir who wished to gain control of the area and it was well known that Alvogyl, as Guardian of Devardec, was not happy with the actions of the Outlaws of Twilight. All tried to control the isle to some extent yet all three failed to change it's ways beyond that of cut throats, vagabonds and outlaws.

This plague was one of the most contagious and fatal in modern Terrisian history. Striking down young, old, weak and strong. Each died screaming out the names of the three immortals who had visited the isle, unable to place the blame upon a particular one.

There were several attempts to return to the city in the years following the outbreak, but the plague remained and claimed all who traveled there. With time, the legend of Twilight was forgotten and the seas that surrounded it were noted to be a graveyard for ships that attempted to cross and thus they were avoided.
